Zimbabwe vs India: Ishan Kishan gets runout in a bizarre manner after there was confusion with Shubman Gill: India managed to clinch the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe by winning the three games. The third match was a dead rubber. It was crucial for the Men in Blue to win the series. They aimed for a 3-0 whitewash. The batsmen took the Indian side a step closer to fulfilling that goal. India skipper KL Rahul decided to bat first in the 3rd ODI game. One thing that did not go in favor of India was Ishan Kishan’s unlucky dismissal.
The game started with Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul who contributed 63 runs to the opening partnership before the latter was dismissed. Dhawan and Shubman Gill have been ruling the news lately for their brilliant partnerships. But the former could not save his wicket and eventually lost his wicket to Brad Evans. Brad Evans knocked his second wicket for the day.
The openers had been dismissed, and all eyes were set on Gill and Kishan. The duo looked in some fine form as they built up the innings. They played a very composed knock and added more than a hundred runs for the third wicket. Gill entered his nineties when Kishan claimed his half-century. But confusion between the two players led to the latter being run out.
Gill was batting at 97 when he faced Evans’ delivery in the 43rd over. Evans made a huge appeal for his lbw. While the umpire disagreed and gave no decision in Zimbabwe’s favor, Kishan started running from the non-striker’s end. With the aim to steal a single amid the chaos, Kishan covered the distance. While Gill, on the other hand, was taken aback due to the opponent’s appeal.
Munyonga, the fielder, rushed in from the point and knocked the stumps down with a direct hit. Kishan was far away from the wicket, and could not get back to his end on time. As a result, Ishan had to walk back to the pavilion. Zimbabwe requested a review. The UltraEdge confirmed that Gill was safe and not subjected to lbw. Kishan proved to be an unlucky player in the game.
Post Kishan’s dismissal, Gill went on to take three easy singles. Gill claimed his maiden One Day Internationals ton to achieve the feat in just 82 deliveries. Gill’s glorious century made everyone forget all the disappointing dismissals. India finished off with style and scored 289 runs in their 50-over quota.
