The ZIM vs NED second ODI will be played in Harare on March 23. The Netherlands won the first ODI by five wickets and are leading the three-match series 1-0. The hosts need to make a comeback in the second ODI. The series is a part of the ICC ODI Super League. The series will serve as a warm-up for the upcoming qualification matches.
Zimbabwe and Netherlands have played four ODIs with the visitors winning three games while Zimbabwe just one. It was in the 2003 World Cup that the two sides met for the first time and their rivalry now dates back to over 20 years.
The hosts have their senior players Sikandar Raza and Craig Ervie back in the side but they could not perform to their potential in the first ODI. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 will be hosted in Zimbabwe from 18 June to 9 July to decide the final two teams for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The World Cup will be a 13-team tournament with the top 8 teams getting a direct qualification.
Zimbabwe and Netherlands are out of the reckoning and they will play the qualifiers. Along with them, teams like South Africa, West Indies and Sri Lanka are also on the edge and might need to play the qualifiers. South Africa needs to win the ongoing series against West Indies and the upcoming series against the Netherlands to ensure direct qualification for the World Cup.
