Kagiso Rabada, a South African fast bowler, has downplayed the significance of getting 500 wickets in international cricket. He acknowledged that statistics are a measure of performance, but emphasized that his primary goal would continue to be to select many more wickets for South Africa.
On the first day of the Centurion Test against India on Tuesday, December 26, Rabada was the standout performer. After winning the toss and bowling first, he took 5/44 in 17 overs to restrict the visitors to 208/8 in 59 overs before stumps on Day 1.
Rabada entered the prestigious group of bowlers with 500 or more international scalps with his 14th five-wicket haul in Tests. But, speaking at the end of the first day of play in Centurion, he downplayed the success.
