Yogeshwar Dutt: If PM Modi Can Motivate Players, CMs Should Follow
If PM Modi Can Motivate Players, CMs Should Follow: Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze-medal winner Divya Kakran, a resident of Delhi, lashed out at chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on social media by alleging she never received any state assistance from his Delhi government despite winning an international competition.
Kakran said the Delhi government never helped her in a series of tweets. Kiran Bedi congratulated her on victory, but asked for help from the state. “I thank Delhi CM from the bottom of my heart for congratulating me on my victory,” Kakran tweeted in Hindi.
I am requesting that even if they are from other states, they be awarded in the same way as Delhi wrestlers, she said in another tweet.
In response to Kakran’s win, the Aam Aadmi Party government said it respects all so-called sportspersons and ensures their welfare though it clarified that Kakran currently represents Uttar Pradesh. The state government said it would look into the matter if Kakran ever applied for any major sports scheme;
The AAP government said in a statement that they respect all sportspersons of the country, and ask for their bright future. At this time, Divya Kakran plays for Uttar Pradesh. In the case that if she had played for Delhi or applied for any government sponsored sports program, the government will likely explore it further.
AAP MLA Bharadwaj clarified that he never represented Delhi. In a reply to the same tweet, Kakran produced certificates to prove she represented Delhi between 2011 and 2017.
Yogeshwar Dutt, an Indian Olympic bronze medal winning wrestler, told CNN News 18 that he was saddened by the controversy and wondered why Puneet had played for Delhi at a time when their chief minister is from Haryana. Yogeshwar Dutt has seen her play “from childhood”, and the fact that she once played for Delhi is why she was moved to the team of Haryana.
The Indian Olympic champion revealed that when their Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is motivating them so much then the other state governments must follow. The player believes that the Delhi Government should give full respect by acting as they are influential within their state, not just athletes.
Yogeshwar Dutt made a clear statement to the Delhi government, stating that there should be no space for politics within sports. Dutt asked them to come and visit Divya Gopie, who was allegedly assaulted by some members of the Aam Aadmi Party earlier this week. In his statement, he urged them to show their support for her by motivating her and helping her get back into her routine.
