Aakash Chopra feels Yashasvi Jaiswal is essentially unstoppable and is ahead of Shubman Gill in the hunt for opener places in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup team.
Jaiswal scored 72 runs in two innings at an impressive strike rate of 180.00 in the just-finished T20I series between India and Afghanistan.
Gill, meanwhile, scored 23 runs with a strike rate of 191.67 in his single game but was also implicated in the mix-up that resulted in Rohit Sharma’s dismissal.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Chopra claimed that Jaiswal had beaten Gill to the opener’s position.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has outrun Shubman Gill.
Yashasvi is ahead in the two-horse race, with Gill trailing just behind.
Gill played in the first match, was dropped in the second, and did not participate in the third, he explained.
Yashasvi was forced to start all three of the remaining two games.
He was also sent to the Super Over. Yashasvi appears to be stuck in place with his hitting style.
Considering what Yashasvi achieved in Indore and has done in the past, he is nearly unstoppable, according to the former India opener.
Chopra believes Jaiswal would win the race if he performs similarly in the first few matches of the IPL 2024.
He stated that Gill will have to work hard just to qualify for India’s T20 World Cup team.
I still feel opening is the ideal location for Kohli in T20s – Aakash Chopra on India perhaps deciding that Virat Kohli will bat at number three
While Virat Kohli is ideally suited to opening in T20s, Aakash Chopra believes India has opted to play him at No. 3.
Before this series, Parthiv Patel stated, and I added to that perspective, that I still feel Kohli is best suited for starting in T20s.
However, it appears that Kohli will bat third because the Indian team is not considering putting him in the opener position, he remarked.
The cricketer-turned-commentator also stated that Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav’s absence during the Afghanistan series did not require India to change their batting order to accommodate left-handers.
They are also not thinking since Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are not present at this time.
So they’re not considering the quantity of left-handers and right-handers. Chopra added that we had Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube, all left-handed players.
According to Chopra, the series has taught him that Kohli will bat at number three and would take a somewhat aggressive approach.
However, he pushed the Indian team management to reconsider their choice, pointing out that Kohli’s finest performance will come as an opener.
