Xavi Simons and an injured Memphis Depay were named for the Netherlands World Cup team
Depay hasn’t played for Barcelona since leaving the game against Poland in the Nations League on September 22 with a limp, and he hasn’t played more than 150 minutes overall this year. Since his summer transfer from Paris St. Germain to PSV Eindhoven, 19-year-old Xavi Simons has had a significant impact, scoring eight goals in 13 league games.
In goal, Van Gaal surprised everyone by leaving out 33-year-old Cillessen, who returned to Valencia from his former club NEC Nijmegen this summer in the hopes of restarting his international career.
