In October 2022, the BCCI announced that they were considering holding a tournament with five teams in March 2023. The new competition was known by its informal name, the Women’s Indian Premier League. However, on January 25, 2023, the BCCI gave the Women’s Premier League its official name.
In 2018, the Women’s T20 Challenge began as a single-match competition. In 2019, 2020, and 2022, it became a three-team, three-match competition. It was the forerunner of the Women’s Premier League. The main Ladies’ Head Association will be held from Walk 4 to Walk 26, 2023, following the worldwide progress of the Indian Chief Association.
The BCCI announced that there will be 22 matches in the tournament. Both the DY Patil Arena in Pune and the Brabourne Arena in Mumbai will host all of the competition’s matches. Similar to the Indian Premier League, the BCCI will hold the first Auction for Women Premier League in February.
Five establishments own a sum of five groups in the Ladies’ Head Association. On January 25, 2023, the bids for WPL teams in this team auction were closed by BCCI, which raised Rs. 4669 crore, which is equivalent to $580 million USD.
The five franchises in question are Diageo, JSW Group, Adani Group, Capri Group, and Reliance Group. Imperial Challengers Bangalore Ladies, Delhi Capitals Ladies, Gujarat Monsters Ladies, UP Heroes Ladies, and Mumbai Indians Ladies make up the five groups in the WPL.
