World Motor Sport Council has now approved changes in F1 technical and sporting regulations
World Motor Sport Council has now approved changes in F1 technical and sporting regulations. The second meeting of the World Motor Sport Council was held in Paris on 29 June 2022. The meeting was led by FIA president Mohammad Bin Sulayem, Sports Robert Reid FIA deputy President, and WMSC members were part of the meeting via video call and in-person.
They finally decided on changes in rules and regulations of technical and sports parts in Formula One races. During the meeting, 1 minute of silence was observed for FIA vice president of honour Jośe Abed who passed away recently. After the meeting, the World Sports council announced the approved changes.
The changes in regulations and rules
The list of changes include
If the ambient temperature is more than 30 C in races, as per regulations fuel now can be chilled up to 20 C while for Grand Prix in cold areas, the fuel must be 10C.
For power units, regulations are changed and now allow components to change for new specifications as per Parc Ferme conditions. In previous specifications of Parc Ferme, it triggered automatic pit lane start. Moreover, FIA will now also allow you to patch or repair for damage or failure. However, they should be replaced or repaired with the same material or composite material. The repairs are allowed to all components on a temporary basis.
The rear wing mainplane trailing edge can now be flexed up to 3mm, it has an increase of 3mm.
Apart from these, the regulations approved by World Council are as follows:
- Car limitations while type testing has been changed
- The timing for pre-event media activities is changed. It will commence in a two-hour window, 23 hours before the race.
- Regulations about mirrors are updated
These were the regulations approved in the second meeting, but the progress of 2026 power unit regulations is yet to be presented. It will be presented at the next world council meeting.
