Because Sakshi was tall and had a long reach, her strategy of punching her opponent and quickly backing away to avoid any kind of counterattack was admirable.
Indian boxer Sakshi (52 kg) defeated Kazakhstanian Zhazira Urakbayeva 5-0 by unanimous decision on Monday in New Delhi to advance to the Women’s World Championship quarterfinals.
Sakshi won bronze at the Asian Championships in 2021 because of her height and long reach. She would punch Urakbayeva and then quickly retreat, putting off her opponent’s counterattack.
The Indian won by punching several opponents as he aggressively danced around the ring.
I performed much better than I had anticipated. After the fight, Sakshi stated, “The strategy worked for me and I was able to dominate,” but “I thought it would be a 19-20 fight because she is a good boxer.”
Preeti will then face off against Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the round of 16, and Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain will face off against Mexico’s Vanessa Ortiz in the 75 kg pre-quarterfinals.
