Sehrawat was just as bad as Shafali, scoring 78 runs in 34 balls and 74 runs in 49.
India defeated UAE by 122 runs in the first Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup on Monday, led by skipper Shafali Verma’s blistering 78 and opener Shweta Sehrawat’s sparkling 74.
India’s impressive score of 219 for three at Willowmoore Park was helped along by Shafali and Sehrawat, who combined for 74 runs off 49 deliveries. From 34 balls, Shafali scored 78 runs. After that, India reached that total thanks to 49 runs scored by Richa Ghosh off of 29 balls.
When Indian bowlers bowled UAE out for 97, the gap between the two teams became clear. India now leads Group D with the victory. By 111 runs, Sehrawat and Shafali, who has played for the senior team in more than 70 international matches and 51 T20Is, shared the first wicket.
From the beginning, Sehrawat made it abundantly clear what she was going to do. After hitting three boundaries and playing two dots, she scored 12 runs. In the next over, Shafali also hit three fours. In the fifth over, the 18-year-old scored India’s first maximum.
Shafali was the partner’s aggressor because she played games with the partners and broke the rules whenever she wanted to. With a four, she showed off her fifty in style.
In her fierce 34-ball innings, Shafali went over the fence four times and hit the fence 12 times, making the UAE bowlers appear clueless. Shafali’s blistering inning ended when she was caught at long-off after hitting four home runs and three sixes in five balls.
After winning the previous match by 92 points, Sehrawat played Sheet Anchor flawlessly, remaining undefeated. As her second 50th birthday got closer, she seemed to be in complete control. Richa, who was moved up to number three, was given up to four reprieves because misfields and missed catches aggravated UAE’s problems.
As Theertha Satish attempted to reach 200 by hitting the boundary four times in the first over, the UAE openers appeared up to the challenge.
However, Shabnam MD threw her out in the fifth ball, putting an end to the charge. After consuming 54 balls, another opener, Lavanya Keny, scored, but UAE never appeared to be in contention.
