With less than 200 days left until the prestigious Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar and Rourkela starts on January 13, 2023, hockey fans from all over the world are very excited. They will travel to the hockey-loving state of Odisha to watch the 16 best teams compete for the title in the biggest tournament on the international hockey calendar. Odisha, led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik, is hosting the prestigious hockey tournament for the second time. This makes it the only state to host the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in back-to-back years.
Previous Season
The last World Cup was held at the famous Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar, which was praised all over the world for its prominent facilities and the way Hockey India ran the event. This time, the event will be held in Rourkela, which is known for its hockey skills and has produced many international players. People in the area are excited to see the best hockey players in the world play at the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, which is home to the largest hockey stadium in the country.
What the Captain Said
Manpreet Singh, who was just named captain for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, talked about how excited the team was to play in yet another World Cup in front of a home crowd. “Mere words can’t express the team’s excitement of playing yet another World Cup in Odisha. This time, with Rourkela also hosting matches, we are all eager to experience the region’s hockey craze. Our compatriots in the team from Odisha have spoken endlessly about the love people have for hockey in this region which makes us all the more eager to play there,” said Manpreet.
“We are ever so grateful to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik who with his continued support for the sport has helped us achieve great laurels for the country. Under his leadership, we have been provided with world’s best hockey infrastructure to compete and with infrastructure work nearing completion in Rourkela, we are all waiting to play in the new facility. By hosting the event in India again, we are provided with yet another opportunity to fight for the prestigious World Cup Title and the team is heading in the right direction,” added Singh.
