With a groin injury, Krunal Pandya’s time playing for Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup has come to an early close. India all-rounder Krunal Pandya’s run in the Royal London One-Day Cup, is over early because he hurt his groin on August 17 while playing against Nottinghamshire. The left-handed all-rounder scored 37 runs in the game, but he was injured and couldn’t go back out to play defense in the second innings. As a result, Pandya didn’t play in either of Sunday’s games when Warwickshire beat Durham and Middlesex.
After talking with doctors, Pandya is likely to miss three weeks of cricket. Unfortunately, this means he won’t be able to play for Warwickshire if they make it to the knockout stages.
Pandya’s Game
So far, Pandya has played in five ODIs and 19 T20Is. His last national game was in July 2021, when he played in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
“It’s frustrating to lose Krunal for the remainder of the tournament, but he leaves the club with our very best wishes. Krunal was an excellent role model around the group and I’m sure the younger members of the squad will have learnt a lot from him on and off the pitch,” said Paul Farbrace, Director of Cricket at Warwickshire.
Pandya, who is 31, scored 134 runs in five Royal London One-Day games, with an average of 33.50. He scored 74 runs in 82 balls in a tie game against Surrey at The Oval. He also took nine wickets with his left-arm spin bowling, averaging 25 wickets per game. Against Sussex and Leicestershire, he had three-wicket hauls in a row.
“Due to the short turnaround, we won’t be signing a replacement, however, I’m incredibly excited to see our squad build on Sunday’s excellent win over Durham,” added Farbrace.
Krunal was one of two Indian players that Warwickshire signed for the English county season that is going on right now. Even though he was available for 50-over games, pacer Mohammed Siraj has been signed up for the last three games in Division 1 of the County Championship. He will join the team India which has won the ODI series against Zimbabwe 3-0.
