“It’s hard to walk”: Due to a foot injury, Tiger Woods withdraws from the Hero World Challenge this week. Tournament host Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw from the Hero World Challenge this week.
Due to a foot injury that is “making it difficult to walk,” tournament host Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw from this week’s Hero World Challenge. The golfer, who is 46 years old, last competed in the British Open in July in St. Andrews.
After a brief hiatus, the PGA Tour-sanctioned event at the Albany Golf Course on Thursday would see him return to action.
The 15-time major champion claimed that he developed plantar fasciitis in his right foot while preparing for the annual charity event. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes.
In a statement released on his Twitter account on Monday, Woods stated, “In preparation and practice for this week’s Hero World Challenge, I’ve developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk.”
Sepp Straka, world number 29, has been chosen to succeed Woods.
However, Woods still intends to participate in two tournaments next month, including the PNC Championship and a made-for-TV exhibition event alongside his son Charlie.
“I have decided to withdraw this week and concentrate on my hosting responsibilities after consulting with my doctors and trainers. The statement continued, “My plan is still to compete in The Match and the PNC Championship.”
The PNC Championship is scheduled for December 17-18, a week after the exhibition tournament, which is scheduled for December 10.
Woods was involved in a car accident in February 2021 and suffered serious injuries to his right leg.
There is no cut in the Hero World Challenge, which has a field of 20 players.
