The mother of all wars took place on July 30 at Grand Prairie Stadium, as MLC prepared to host its inaugural final between Seattle Orcas and MI New York. It was a terrific thriller with dramatic explosions and constant entertainment. MI New York ended Seattle’s reign in a spectacular manner by winning their first-ever MLC title.
Orcas had gotten off to a fantastic start. Despite losing some quick wickets, they formed partnerships in the early and middle stages of the first innings. The most crucial batsman was Quinton de Kock. He, Shubnam Ranjane, and Dwaine Pretorius all helped Seattle end their first innings with a competitive score of 183.
When confronted with a 184-point objective, Nicholas Pooran mocked Seattle’s bowling attack and put them to the cleaners. He did most of the scoring himself at breakneck speed, leading MI New York to a thumping victory in record time.
Pooran’s boldness left the Seattle Orcas bowlers with little choice but to submit to his brazen brilliance.
MI New York was awarded the trophy following the conclusion of the final match. After a difficult season, the team performed admirably in the tournament’s final stages. While Seattle has been constantly delivering throughout the tournament, this must have been a heartbreaking defeat.
MI New York wins their first MLC title thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s blazing innings
Seattle scored 31 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first six overs after being invited to bat first by MINY. This was their lowest powerplay score of the season by far. After the powerplay, Quinton de Kock and Shehan Jayasuriya kept the engine rolling with a 41-run stand for the second wicket.
However, wickets were tumbling at the other end, when Heinrich Klaasen was caught in the 13th over against the run of play. Rashid Khan bowled miserably and concluded with unbelievable scores of 3/9. In the death overs, Boult also hit a three-fer utilizing the knuckleball to good effect. With the exception of these bowlers, the remainder of the MINY bowing card does not appear promising, as many bowlers, including Wiese, went around for plenty.
Quinton finished his innings on a strong note, scoring 87 off 52 balls. Furthermore, cameos from Shubnam Ranjane and Dwaine Pretorius helped the Orcas break the 180-run barrier.
MI New York got off to the worst possible start in their pursuit of 184, losing hometown hero Taylor with no runs on the board. The Seattle Orcas, on the other hand, had no idea what was in store for them. Nicholas Pooran took command of the situation from this point forward, making it a one-man show.
He unleashed a ferocious assault with a ground-breaking century that absolutely annihilated a tough Orcas bowling attack. He hit his century in just 40 balls and did the majority of the heavy lifting to propel New York to their first MLC title. Pooran scored with a blistering strike rate of over 250, amassing an undefeated 137 off 55 balls. His electric inning featured 13 massive sixes and ten fours.
His power-hitting was so devastating that the match ended about 45 minutes before the scheduled time. Pooran was eager to complete the game for his team and he hit the winning runs. To lead MINY to a crushing victory with 24 balls to spare. Except for Pooran, the remainder of the batting order appeared to be somewhat ordinary.
