Despite having a strong team in most of the IPL seasons, Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils have failed to win any title till date. Their best performance has been a final appearance in IPL 2020, when they lost to Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians by five wickets.
Delhi topped the points table in IPL 2021 after the league stage, but the tournament was suspended due to COVID-19-related restrictions. They were semifinalists in the inaugural IPL in 2008, where they lost to eventual champions Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin of 105 runs.
They were in semi-finals in IPL 2009 as well, where they meet Deccan Chargers in semi-finals, but Delhi lost the match by six wickets to storm out of the tournament. Delhi Capitals have played 225 matches in IPL so far, of which they have won 100 and lost 119.They won three matches in a tiebreaker while losing one. Their winning percentage in IPL is 45.73 per cent.
Delhi Capitals (DC) named opener Prithvi Shaw among their four retentions heading into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Mega Auction.
DC retained Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje, using up ₹42.5 crore. They will now have ₹47.50 crore left to spend in the auction, which is the lowest remaining budget among the eight existing franchises.
While Pant was the first retention at ₹16 crore, Axar Patel was retained for ₹9 crore. Shaw was retained for ₹7.5 crore and Nortje for ₹6.5 crore. Shaw began his IPL career for DC in 2018 and has since established himself as an opener for them.
A swashbuckling batter, he has given DC quick starts, although his consistency has sometimes been an issue.

Not only this but the board will also pay him his 5 Crore central contract payments in full. Pant will be out of cricket for almost next 6 months. India wicketkeeper & Delhi Capitals captain underwent surgery on his knee on Friday evening. The 25-year-old suffered two tears on his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). InsideSport has already reported that Pant will be out of action for next 6 months.
Pant will not only miss IPL 2023 but now is also doubtful for both Asia Cup 2023 (Sep) & ICC ODI World Cup (Oct-Nov).
