Which state has the most victories in the origin series?
Which state has the most victories in the origin series? The main focus of State of Origin is bragging rights, but which state has the greatest bragging rights? We examine how Queensland and New South Wales have performed throughout time. There have been 40 complete State of Origin series, and Queensland has prevailed in 22 of them. With the latter two series being drawn, New South Wales has won 16 of them.
In the three one-off contests that took place in 1980, 1981, and 1987, Queensland won the first two and New South Wales the third. Queensland has won 63 of the 119 State of Origin games, New South Wales has won 54, and two games have been tied. The past 20 years have seen Queensland experience a lot of prosperity. From 2006 to 2013, the Maroons were notable for winning eight straight series.
The most recent success has gone to the NSW Blues, who have won three of the last five series. However, each series has frequently contained a close game, and neither state has been able to claim a “whitewash” victory.
The third and final game of the series between Origin and Brisbane will be played on Wednesday, July 13. The Maroons had to wait until the series finals to return to their home field after playing three games in front of home fans in 2021. Suncorp Stadium has played host to the most Origin games of any stadium, with Queensland winning 37 of the 58 contests.
