The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to introduce women’s IPL from 2023. The governing council met after a long time in person and in the meeting they decided to organize 6 team format Which includes the existing 3 teams. The BCCI has realized that there is a big market for women’s cricket leagues. However, this year also we will usual Women’s T20 challenge With the existing three teams. In the past, BCCI got criticism for not starting women’s IPL. The board made the decision to introduce 6 teams in 1st edition of WIPL. In an interview, BCCI President Saurav Ganguly said that Women’s IPL will be launched in 2023.
Six teams announced for Women IPL
BCCI announced that six teams will be the part of women’s Indian Premier League which will launch in 2023. The three teams are already existing teams which are Trailblazers, Supernovas, and Velocity these teams are the part of women’s T20 challenge. And the remaining three teams BCCI will announce later.
Why WIPL is important for Indian women’s cricket.
Indian women’s team have brilliant talent, but then also they will be unable to win any ICC titles and try very hard to in the ICC tournaments. And lost many close matches which is due to a lack of pressure handling situations. In WIPL there is the possibility to get used to pressure situations. Which helps Indian players in big tournaments like World Cup.
