The 87th release of the competition will comprise 64 matches that will be played across 62 days, with the groups being partitioned into eight World class gatherings and one Plate bunch. The First class groups will play against one another, though the Plate groups play against three groups from that gathering.
The Ranji Trophy was dropped last year because of the second Coronavirus wave in India. The 2022 season started for this present year in February, with the association stages being held before IPL 2022.
The remainder of the competition continued once the T20 competition finished, from Dec 13, with the quarterfinal, elimination round, and last being arranged. Bengal, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh made the main eight, from where Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh qualified for the elimination round.
