The Kerala Blasters, who finished second in last year’s Indian Super League, will play East Bengal in Kochi on October 7 (Friday). The 2022-23 ISL season will return to a home-and-away format after the COVID pandemic restricted the tournament within the bio bubble. Jamshedpur FC won the League Shield, while Hyderabad FC won the prestigious trophy.
The tournament’s upcoming season will feature a lot of new rules. Previously, the top four teams qualified for the playoffs; however, the new ISL season will include elimination matches to select the semi-finalists. The top two teams automatically advance to the semi-finals; however, the remaining two semi-finalists will be decided by the third-place team facing the sixth-place team and the fourth-place club facing the fifth-paced team.
