Rohit Sharma’s, the captain of Team India, said that he hinted to Ishan Kishan about the team’s declaration strategy because he wanted the Test debut to get his first runs.
On Day 3 of the Dominica Test against the West Indies, India declared their innings with 421/5 in response to the first-innings score of 150 by the West Indies.
In Test cricket, Kishan, who entered the batting order at position No. 7, faced 19 balls without scoring before beginning his run on the 20th delivery. Some people questioned why India didn’t accelerate more aggressively while being in control. As soon as Kishan made his first Test run, the visitors declared.
Rohit spoke up about waiting for Kishan to score his first run before declaring following India’s crushing 141-run victory in the first Test.
I was only informing the hitters that we will likely declare after an over or so. Ishan had probably faced close to 15 or 20 balls before scoring, so I wanted to urge him, “Get your first runs in Test cricket and then we have to declare,” the Indian captain remarked.
I can appreciate that playing your first Test match can be nerve-wracking, and I could see that he was sitting there in the dressing room the entire [second] day wanting to go out to bat, so I understand the feeling. However, I was just letting him know that we probably have an over or two before we declare,” he continued.
Kishan didn’t do much with the bat, but he made a strong impression at the stumps. The custodian made two fantastic catches and was heard praising the team nonstop.

At no point [did it appear] like he was panicked or veering away from his intentions, which was nice to see. He came and batted intelligently, had a lot of patience, and his temperament was also put to the test.
The West Indies hitters were essentially run over by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who claimed match statistics of 12 for 131. Important victories were also contributed by Ravindra Jadeja.
Rohit praised the spin team and said:
Both of these people have been performing this task for us in the past. They are fully aware of what is expected of them. Not much has to be spoken to them on what we must accomplish. It only requires approaching them and allowing them the space to speak freely because that is the time when they are also giving their all to the side.
Jadeja got three wickets in the first innings and two in the second, but Ashwin was the game’s biggest wrecker.
India Won By an innings and 141 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal player of the match.
