    When was the last time a British tennis player won Wimbledon title. Over the years Wimbledon has been a part of four grand slam tournaments including the french open, US Open, and Australian Open. However, out of all four, Wimbledon is one of the most prestigious tennis titles in the world. Currently, ongoing Wimbledon 2022 saw a comeback of star Serena Williams and other major tennis players participating. 

    While world no. 1 is the favorite to win the championship, British players have quite a history with Wimbledon. Wimbledon has created many tennis stars over the history of 145 years and many British players have been part of its history. Various British tennis stars have seen life-changing moments in Wimbledon, but it’s been 7 years since the last British player won any Wimbledon title. Most recently in 2016, Andy Murray was the Wimbledon champion. 

    The last British to win Wimbledon 

    Andy Murray is the recent winner of the Men’s Wimbledon title in 2016. He faced Canadian Milos Raonic in the 2016 final. Andy Murray brought the Wimbledon title home in 2013 when he defeated Noval Djokovic. He was the first British player to win a Wimbledon title in the last 76 years. Andy won Noval after 12 months of losing against Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final. 

    Andy again brought the title home in 2016 when he won straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2). During the 2013 Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic had an early exit due to shock suffering, Rafael Nadal was not participating due to injury, and Federer lost in the semifinals. 

    Virginia Wade was the last British woman to win Wimbledon Women’s title in 1977 against Betty Stove( Netherlands). It’s been 44 years since Britain won the Wimbledon title in Women’s singles. She won the three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Moreover, she was the last British woman to reach the Wimbledon finals. The British won Wimbledon twice with Virginia Wade in 1997 and Ann Jones in 1969.
