When asked about Mohammad Amir’s future with Pakistan, PCB head selector Muhammad Wasim finally speaks up.
When asked about Mohammad Amir’s future with Pakistan, PCB head selector Muhammad Wasim finally speaks up. Mohammad Amir has not been considered for the Pakistan team in the last few years. The left-handed pacer’s last international game was a T20I against England in August 2020. A few months later, he announced that he was retiring from international play and was no longer available for selection. But Amir said at the time that he would be willing to be considered when the management of the PCB at the time ended.
Since the new management took over more than a year ago, Amir still hasn’t come back to the team. This week, Muhammad Wasim, who is in charge of choosing players for the PCB, was asked about the future of the star pacer. After that, he finally said something about Amir.
Amir cannot be taken into account.
Wasim said that Amir had “retired” from international cricket, so he couldn’t be taken into account.
“My work is to select from players who are available for selection. Unfortunately, Mohammad Amir never made himself available in my tenure. He has taken retirement, so I never talked about him. When he is not available, what can I say. The rest, who are available, we do talk about them and consider them. But there is no such policy,” Wasim said on Pakistan journalist Hafiz Muhammad Imran’s channel.
Last month, when Pakistan’s T20 World Cup team was announced, Mohammad Amir tweeted, “chief selector ki cheap selection.” This caused a lot of anger among fans. The tweet was a direct jab at Muhammad Wasim, who had left Amir off the 15-person team.
Pakistan will play again in the T20I tri-series, which starts on October 7 and also includes New Zealand and Bangladesh. The team led by Babar Azam would try to improve its middle-order play after the batters didn’t step up in Pakistan’s 7-match T20I series against England, which they lost 3-4.
On October 23, they play their biggest rivals, India, in the first game of the T20 World Cup.
