Hotel prices in Ahmedabad increased by more than three times during the match dates, which shows the genuine excitement among cricket fans across the globe.
In Ahmedabad, the average cost of a hotel room has increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 to Rs 40,000 and in some cases Rs 1 lakh. ITC Narmada, Courtyard by Marriott, Hyatt, and Taj Skyline Ahmedabad are some of the five-star hotels in Ahmedabad where rooms are no longer available due to high demand.
The head of the Saurashtra Chamber of Commerce, Nalin Zaveri, provided news outlet ANI with an explanation of the causes behind the rise in hotel prices in Ahmedabad. The maximum capacity of hotels in the city is only 1,32,000, Zaveri claimed, adding that there is a clear demand and supply mismatch due to the large number of visitors from outside the city who are coming just for the major event.
Officials from Gujarat’s Hotel and Restaurant Association (HRA) informed PTI that the demand from the upper middle class and NRI cricket enthusiasts from other states is the primary cause of the rise in hotel rates in Ahmedabad.
