On the Day 3 of the first Test at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica, Team India easily defeated West Indies by one set and 141 runs.
When he trapped Tagenarine Chanderpaul (7) lbw with a full delivery, Ravindra Jadeja gave India their first victory. Ashwin dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite, the captain of the West Indies, for seven runs to start his wicket-taking rampage. A full ball that straightened to the first slip was stolen by the hitter from behind the stumps.
With a flighted delivery, the Indian off-spinner caught Jermaine Blackwood lbw for 5 early in the second session. The next victim was Raymon Reifer (11), who was caught lbw by a jagged delivery from Jadeja.
Newcomer Alick Athanaze once more had a strong appearance before Ashwin removed him for 28. Athanaze earned an inside edge by playing down the wrong line, but the short leg nimbly retained it. As Alzarri Joseph (13), slog-swept Ashwin to deep midwicket, the wickets kept falling.
Rahkeem Cornwall (#4) was caught at short leg by Shubman Gill, giving Ashwin his tenth Test-match victory. With a full ball too good for the West Indies tailender, he removed Kemar Roach (0) from the game in the same over.
The final wicket was appropriately taken by the off-spinner, who caught Jomel Warrican (18) when he attempted a risky reverse sweep. With the victory, Ashwin also recorded his highest international numbers.
Yashasvi Jaiswal fails to reach the double-hundred mark – Day 3
Earlier, India’s rookie opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was removed for 171 off 387 balls, falling short of a double century. The left-hander resumed his innings on 143* and batted confidently throughout. However, Joseph killed him by stealing a long delivery that was directed toward the goaltender. Jaiswal scored 16 fours and a six while he was at the crease.
Ajinkya Rahane was killed by Roach for three while Virat Kohli, who was undefeated at 36 overnight, quietly batted on to reach fifty.
