What To Expect On Day 2 Of WTA Granby
What To Expect On Day 2 Of WTA Granby: This is the Women’s Tennis Association tournament with a chance to watch and learn from new players. The event will feature the top-ranked 16 players in the world. However, outside of those names, all bets are off, as we could see that teenagers in the top 500 get put on display throughout this tournament.
Our day two predictions for the WTAG day two preview include Daria Kasatkina. The Russian is the obvious favourite to win, but be sure to check out our other previews for analysis on some of her competitors. With that out of the way, let’s get into three matches featured in this set.
Even though both players are ranked outside the top 200, this match exemplifies that top-level players in this tournament often face opponents of lower ranking. Wang is #75 on the world ranking list and faces off with Jamie Loeb who is ranked #259 on the list. The American has never been inside the top 150 in 2018/2019.
The match is proceeding in a predictable manner, with Wang set to sweep a relatively inexperienced opponent. The Chinese tennis star is too powerful, has great serves and has a bright future ahead of her. Expect Wang to win this one easily.
Since Cross is not a player to watch in the current juniors rankings, her successful performance in Tokyo doesn’t warrant being ranked as one of the top players.
The young Canadian, who hasn’t had any prior experience against this level of opponent, was handed a bagel in the second set of their qualifying match in Toronto against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz two weeks ago. Bondar should win this one pretty easily. The Hungarian shouldn’t have too much trouble either.
With Shakira returning to the top of tennis and many other top 20 players having strong years in 2022, it appears that women like Kasatkina, Garbine Muguruza and Caroline Garcia are set for a great year.
Kasatkina has been positioned at #10 since 2019, which is not a particularly notable position in WTA rankings considering her successes and the lack of major players around her. The Russian always had subpar power, so she can fall very quickly if she’s off of form.
