Carlos Sainz has finally won a Formula One race after 150 attempts. A pole-to-victory drive for Carlos Sainz wasn’t easy for the Spaniard, who struggled at times and was instructed to allow teammate Charles Leclerc through as Ferrari tried to fend off Lewis Hamilton’s threat, but he did it. However, a late Safety Car allowed Sainz to pit for new soft tires, which he utilized to his advantage to re-pass Leclerc and then battle to victory.
Leclerc was left vulnerable to attacks from Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez, and Lewis Hamilton since Ferrari decided not to pit him during the late Safety Car period when he was leading the race.
Carlos Sainz, 1st
“It was a fantastic day. Taking the checkered flag at Silverstone with Scuderia Ferrari and winning my maiden Formula One Grand Prix before such an enthusiastic crowd is an experience that will live long in my memory.
Charles Leclerc, 4th
“Because I didn’t finish where I wanted to, this was a challenging race for me. At times, I had to compete for my position with people who were using softs, which was difficult in the end. It’s disappointing that we didn’t score more goals for our squad today, but that’s life.
Mattia Binotto, Principal Team and Managing Director
For us to win again at Silverstone, which is one of the most difficult tracks in the world, shows that we have worked hard this season both on the track and back in Maranello,” said Jenson Button. In addition to securing his first pole position, Carlos enjoyed a fantastic weekend. He fought hard the entire time and was well-deserving of his victory.
Red Bull
Carlos Sainz took the lead from Max Verstappen on the first lap, but the race was soon red-flagged, reverting him to P2 on the grid for the restart. In the early stages, he overtook Sainz after the Ferrari driver drove wide, but a puncture dropped him to sixth place just a few laps later, and a broken floor meant he struggled all day and finished P7.
Max Verstappen, 7th
With Checo on the podium, we’ve secured some excellent points for the Team with my seventh-place finish, despite the damage I had on the car. My expectations were obviously high, but today was just bad luck.
Sergio Perez, 2nd
The crew and I are relieved after such a stressful weekend. Physically, I wasn’t at my best this week, and after the first lap, I was last. So, to finish second is a huge accomplishment. That first lap was a disaster for me, as Charles collided with my front wing and I was forced to drop back. The result is gratifying since we fought for it.
Christian Horner, Team Principal
With his front wing end plate damaged on the first lap, we had to change Checo’s nose. His comeback was fantastic, and we couldn’t have asked for more from him today.” It helped that the safety car allowed us to swap out our worn tyres for new ones, but he was still impressive in terms of speed and racing strategy.
Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton appeared to be right back in the hunt at Silverstone with new modifications to the W13 and might have easily grabbed the victory. At his home race, he had an exciting duel with Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc in the final 10 laps, and he finished third after an electrifying performance in front of his home audience.
Lewis Hamilton, 3rd
“Today, I gave it all I had! Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t catch Carlos and his Ferrari, so my congratulations go out to him. We couldn’t keep up with them today, and towards the conclusion of the game, I was engaged in a struggle with Checo. As much as I appreciate all the hard work the crew put into getting an upgrade here, I couldn’t keep up with them today. We’ve made a big stride forward, so we’ve had to keep going!
George Russell, DNF
We decided to take a chance and start the race on the hard tyre because there was very little grip at the beginning of the race due to a mistake I made in qualifying. It’s the most difficult complex, it’s freezing outside, and all the cars slammed into me at once. I was on Zhou’s side the next thing I knew after getting touched.

Toto Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport
The team doesn’t know how to respond after a race like that. On the one hand, it’s disappointing to have finished third when we could have been contending for the win and a significant number of points with two cars
