Roberto Firmino, a striker for Liverpool, has decided that the time has come to leave the Merseyside club. The Brazilian striker has been with the Reds for eight years, but his contract is set to expire in the summer. Despite doubts about his playing time, 31-year-old Firmino has played a regular role this season. In 24 games across all competitions, he has contributed four assists and scored nine goals.
Firmino is said to have told manager Jurgen Klopp that he plans to leave Anfield at the end of the season, according to reports. According to a new Telegraph report, Firmino believes he can make more money elsewhere. The Liverpool striker has made his decision because there is a better offer elsewhere.
If Firmino stays with the Merseysiders for a longer period of time, he is also concerned about being given a more peripheral role. His status would have been reflected in Klopp’s side’s contract. According to Salary Sport, he currently earns £180,000 per week.
In 2015, the veteran frontman paid £29 million to transfer to Liverpool from Hoffenheim. With 107 goals and 78 assists in 353 games across competitions, he has become a hero at Anfield. The Brazilian has won the League Cup, FA Cup, Premier League, and UEFA Champions League.
Martin Keown, a legendary Arsenal player, has praised Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo:
Last month, Liverpool paid £37 million to acquire Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. The forward from the Netherlands has scored twice in 11 games across all competitions. He had scored 55 goals and contributed 50 assists in 159 games at the Philips Arena, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after attackers when he arrived at Anfield.
The player had a successful 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which coincided with the transfer. In five games for the team led by Louis van Gaal, he scored three goals. Martin Keown, a former Arsenal player, told talkSPORT’s Jim White that Gakpo could be a great signing for Klopp’s team:
“Gakpo, Jim, is he good enough?” Is he actually proficient? He may be an outstanding signing, in my opinion.
Gakpo has joined Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota’s exciting frontline. Sadio Mane, who signed with Bayern Munich last summer, is still leaving the Reds. Given his prolific PSV career, the Dutch attacker is a potential replacement. While he may require some time to adjust to Premier League football, he was also a target for Manchester United and Real Madrid.
