Steve is a multi-talented American who has excelled in various fields such as professional football, coaching, politics, sports broadcasting, and professional wrestling. He had a successful college football career at the University of Texas at Austin, where he played as a defensive tackle and was recognized as an All-American and inducted into the Hall of Fame. Steve also played in the National Football League for 14 years, earning two Pro-Bowler and five All-Pro honors. He was a part of the Chicago Bears team that won Super Bowl XX.
What happened to Steve McMichael?
On Thursday, Steve McMichael, a former defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears, was hospitalized. Reports suggest that the 65-year-old was admitted to the ICU while unconscious with sepsis and was given two IV antibiotics. McMichael has been fighting ALS since April 2021, which causes a gradual decline in motor neurons that control voluntary muscles responsible for chewing food, talking, and walking.
According to a statement from the Bears which was released last week, Steve’s health has continued to deteriorate. Steve was recently named one of the 12 players in the Seniors category that moved on to the next round of voting for the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024. Steve’s family members have said that the former Chicago star’s spirit has been boosted by the recent news of his potential enshrinement.
Mitsy, the wife of McMichael, has requested fans to pray for the NFL legend.
During an interview with Larry Hawley of WGN earlier this week, she expressed that it is crucial for
him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Mitsy added that it is of great importance to them and the NFL community that his achievements are recognized. She urged everyone to keep him in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
In the 1980 NFL draft, Steve was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round. Steve played for the team for one season before moving on to join the Chicago Bears. During his 13 seasons with the Bears, McMichael played a pivotal role in their 1986 Super Bowl victory. Steve received two Pro Bowl honors and two First-team All-Pro honors. After a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers in 1994, McMichael retired from football.
