David Miller, who will be leading the Paarl Royals in the upcoming SA20 league’s inaugural tournament, described tearaway pacer Anrich Nortje as a formidable opponent who will bring in attack and is eager to defeat him. The Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town will face off on January 10 in Cape Town to kick off the SA20’s inaugural season.
Even though South Africa did not make it to the quarterfinals of the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, Nortje stood out by taking 11 wickets in five games with an economy rate of 5.37, including two four-wicket hauls. Nortje has been signed by Pretoria Capitals to play in the SA20.
David Miller, captain of the Paarl Royals, said in an interview with SA20 that he is very excited to work with a new team that has a healthy mix of young talent and experienced senior players.
We have a great team and are looking forward to joining forces with all of them in early January. We have some good experienced players, including Jos Buttler, who won the World Cup, and Eoin Morgan, who has all of the World Cup experience in his bank. Yes, good experienced senior players and a lot of young players are looking forward to it.”
Miller added, “I don’t really have anything against anyone, probably going to be Anrich Nortje, fastest bowler on the circuit at the moment,” when asked who he is most excited to face and how he will handle the opposition’s bowlers. So, I’m looking forward to taking him down because I know he’ll come in hot and bring his aggression.
Miller also wants to compete against England’s MI Cape Town’s left-arm pace all-rounder Sam Curran in the competition. Curran was named Player of the Match and Tournament in the T20 World Cup final between England and Pakistan. England won by seven wickets and won the tournament.
“There are so many good bowlers, but I would probably say Sam Curran has definitely had a little bit of an advantage over me over the last couple of years,” Miller added. In the World Cup, he just won Man of the Series and Man of the Match, and he’s in great form. As a result, I am anticipating facing him but also climbing on top of him.
Jos Butler, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jason Roy, and Eoin Morgan are just a few of the world’s most prolific cricketers who make up the Paarl Royals team. Paarl Royals pre-purchased David Miller, Jos Buttler, Obed Mcoy, and Corbin Bosch during the auctions, as well as Tabraiz Shamsi, the squad’s most expensive player.
