West Ham United is in fine shape as a club right now, having qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2022/23 season thanks to their strong performance in the 2021/22 season.
David Moyes has constructed a team capable of exceeding expectations, and he will be hoping to replicate that feat in the upcoming Premier League season despite obvious reinforcements from other teams.
Without Mark Noble as captain, the Irons will have to figure out how to get the job done without a seasoned veteran leading the way. However, with Noble out of the picture, opportunities will arise for younger players to make an impact.
Confirmed transfers in
Nayef Aguerd, a center-back from Rennes, is the lone major addition to West Ham’s roster so far this window.
The Hammers have agreed to pay the Ligue 1 club roughly £30 million (around $36.8 million) for the services of the Morocco international, who has signed a five-year contract at the London Stadium.
Reportedly, West Ham has also initiated contract negotiations with Jesse Lingard for a free transfer. The England international will leave Manchester United when his contract ends after a successful loan season in 2020/21.
Confirmed transfers out
At the end of the 2021/22 season, West Ham will be without no less than six noteworthy players.
Mark Noble, a pivotal captain, has retired, and Ryan Fredericks, Andriy Yarmolenko, and David Martin have all departed the club in east London because their contracts have expired. Fredericks, the former, has completed a free transfer to Bournemouth.
Similarly, Alphonse Areola and Alex Kral left West Ham after their loan agreements expired. However, there have been rumors that Areola is close to completing a permanent deal with the club from PSG.
New contracts
Fans of West Ham may be concerned that key players like Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, and Michail Antonio are entering the final two years of their contracts without any new contract terms on the horizon.
Returning loanees
Several loanees from West Ham will also return to the team this summer, with the majority of them having been sent out to get playing time to avoid being on the outside looking in at the club.
There may be an opportunity in the preseason for some of these talented youngsters to impress Moyes going into 2022/23, with the likes of Conor Coventry, Mipo Odubeko, and Goncalo Cardoso, in particular, showing real promise.
