Wedding bells for former world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in Australia
Wedding bells for former world No. 1: It’s been confirmed! The title of “bride” now officially belongs to Ashleigh Barty. According to a post that the three-time Grand Slam winner made on Instagram, she and her partner of many years, Gary Kissick, just married the knot.
The former number one posted a picture on their Instagram account from the event, along with the endearing comment “Husband and Wife.” BTW – this is the only photo that can currently be seen online because her wedding was kept so secretly hush-hush!
Ceremony
In a private ceremony held in Queensland, the couple declared their undying love for one another in front of just members of their immediate families and the people who are closest to them in their lives. The winner of the Australian Open was adorned in a stunning dress with a halter neckline that was designed by Susan Harward.
Even though the wedding took place a week ago, Barty insisted that everyone keep quiet about it until she was ready to announce the happy news to the rest of the world. At the ceremony were present some of the most prominent figures in Australian tennis, including Casey Dellacqua, Alicia Mollick, and Patrick Rafter, amongst others.
Since they first crossed paths in 2016, while they were both participating in a game of golf at the Brooklands Golf and Country Club located in Queensland, the notoriously quiet couple has been together.
In the same year, Ash would compete at the highest level of professional tennis for the first time since taking a vacation from the sport. The following year, Barty and Kissick made their relationship official by appearing together at the 2017 John Newcombe Awards. In November of this past year, the couple made the announcement that they are engaged.
She would go on to win 15 trophies throughout the course of her career, including three Grand Slam victories earlier this year at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and in her home country of Australia.
No. 1
Two months after she won in Melbourne, Barty, who was then ranked No. 1 in the world, revealed that she would be retiring from tennis.
In spite of the fact that he was tennis ignorant, her fiance had remained by her side through every stage of the process. In a recent interview with Vogue, the three-time winner of the Grand Slam disclosed the following information:
“When we first started hanging out together, he didn’t know a whole lot about tennis, but he’s been quite patient with me. When it comes to his comprehension of what it’s like to be on tour and how much time passes between the two of us, he’s been kind of thrown into the deep end…”
