Justin Langer, a former Australian head coach, believes that Alex Carey and Jonny Bairstow should try to unwind psychologically after being in the limelight for the last two Ashes 2023 Tests. He proposed that people relieve tension by playing golf or resting on the beach.
After the Australian keeper-batter unexpectedly stumped the England player during the Lord’s Test, Carey and Bairstow made headlines. In England’s second innings, Bairstow left a ball from Cameron Green and practically instantly walked out of his crease. The hitter was thrown out of his crease when Carey threw down the stumps.
The contentious dismissal renewed the spirit of cricket discussion, with opposing factions in England and Australia. Langer described why a pause from the action would assist both players at the centre of the debate in his piece for The Telegraph.
Alex Carey and Jonny Bairstow – “Both Alex Carey and Jonny Bairstow, being professional cricketers, would indeed benefit from some beach time as a means to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy a change of environment.”
Jonny Bairstow was caught asleep outside the crease, and Australian keeper Alex Carey displayed outstanding game knowledge to terminate the powerful batter’s time at the crease. The home fans booed Australia, and cries of ‘Same Old Aussies, Always Cheating’ were heard.
“There are many players who would benefit greatly” – Langer believes a practice match would have benefitted Australia
Given the time lag between the third and fourth Ashes 2023 Tests, the former Australian coach believes the visitors should have played a practice game. According to him, this would have aided a number of players, including some seniors.
Australian cricket coach Justin Langer believes that a practice match would have benefited the Australian cricket team. Pratice matches are often used by teams as a means to prepare for tournaments or series. The fourth Ashes 2023 Test will be held from July 19 to 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The tense last day of play in the second test of the 2023 Ashes saw emotions build after Jonny Bairstow left the pitch in a somewhat unusual manner, reigniting the spirit of cricket argument. The English wicketkeeper batter dodged Cameron Green’s delivery, allowing the ball to fall into the hands of the keeper.
While everything appeared to be OK, Bairstow experienced a massive brain fade as he exited the crease with the ball still in Alex Carey’s hands. Carey was quick to spot Bairstow’s errors and lobbed the ball to the stumps, catching the English batsman well short of his crease.
