“We were talking about things other than cricket,” Michael Vaughan says, recalling an earlier exchange with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Former England cricket player David Lloyd believes that in the forthcoming match, England should think about adjusting how they approach Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Lloyd proposed that the visitors attempt bowling an off-spinner versus the Indian opener rather than a left-arm spinner. Lloyd stated in his Daily Mail column: “Jaiswal is a dasher all right, but he does not have an obvious weakness, so I would be thinking a little outside the box and putting temptation in deep water by sticking with the off-spinner instead of bowling the left-arm spinner against him with the new ball. I wish England had capitalized a little bit more on Jaiswal’s ego.”
The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot will host the third Test match between India and England from February 15–19.
“We were talking about things other than cricket,” Michael Vaughan says
Michael Vaughan, the former captain of England, spoke highly of Team India’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, and recalled a chat they had during the Indian Premier League (IPL) the previous year.
At the second Test match between India and England at Visakhapatnam, Jaiswal was outstanding with the bat, scoring an impressive double-century. In the match, the left-hander’s scores were 209 and 17.
For the next three Test matches, Jaiswal will be a pain in England’s side, according to Vaughan. Talking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, the cricketer-turned-commentator said:
“Yashasvi Jaiswal is a concern and a problem for England. He is an amazing athlete. During the IPL in Mumbai, I met him in the pool. We had a chat, and I am not suggesting that’s why he scored a hundred the next night in Mumbai. We were discussing topics other than cricket, so our advice was probably not appropriate for this particular episode. However, his tale is impressive.”
After an early scare in the rubber, India recovered to win the second Test with a commanding 106-run margin. As of right now, the series is 1-1.
