“We want to follow the IPL in producing all-format players” – Graeme Smith
Graeme Smith is a South African cricket analyst and former player who represented South Africa in all forms.
In 2003, he succeeded Shaun Pollock as captain of the national squad. He served as test captain until he retired in 2014.
Former South African captain Graeme Smith claimed that they are adopting the IPL’s model of creating all-format players.
Considering that the cash-rich league has done so in abundance over the years. The SA20 commissioner praised the process by which Indian cricket has found a slew of excellent players.
Given the level of competition, the IPL has risen to become the world’s largest T20 league, producing some of the finest cricketers in the game.
Not only have Indian players won the privilege to play for their national teams through their achievements in the T20 league, but so have global talents.
Smith told PTI Bhasha that following in the footsteps of the IPL can help South Africa re-establish itself as a cricket superpower. Highlighting the IPL’s part in the same.
The PL also played an important part in the development of the SA20, with all six clubs owned by previous league franchises.
The six teams are the Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, Johannesburg Super Kings, Durban’s Super Giants, MI Cape Town, and SunRisers Eastern Cape.
