During Sunday’s first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh, Team India star Virat Kohli made a stunning catch. At the cover position, Kohli made a spectacular dive to his left and took a one-handed catch to bowl out Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who had been scoring 29 runs off 37 deliveries up until that point.
Interestingly, Litton Das had taken a blinder at a point earlier in the Indian innings, and Kohli had been run out on a similar stunning catch. India’s batsmanship was disappointing as they were run out for 186 in 41.2 overs. Deepak Chahar’s duck catch of Najmul Hassan Shanto cost Bangladesh a wicket on the first delivery.
Before Shakib and captain Litton Das left on 41, they had put together a 48-run partnership to give the innings some stability. Shakib also gave Washington Sundar his wicket shortly after that.
At the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, India had previously played subpar batting and been bowled out for 186.
Bangladesh’s bowlers were disciplined from the start when India was put into bat, taking wickets frequently to defeat them in 41.2 overs. The visitors’ sole player was KL Rahul, who scored 73 runs off 70 deliveries. Bangladesh’s bowlers were led by left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan (5/36) and Ebadat Hossain (4/47) who also contributed a few wickets.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of India’s batters, returned to the side after being rested for the ODIs against New Zealand but failed to impress. Kohli was fired on 9, while Rohit was fired on 27. As Rahul, who played in the middle order, continued to run out of partners, Shreyas Iyer (24), Washington Sundar (19), and Washington Sundar were also dissatisfied with the bat.
