Walt Frazier leads Knicks in style (Feb 14, 1970) – The Sporting News Archives. The star guard player Frazier of New York Knicks had almost left a pro basketball game at the Spectrum. He used to love new clothes and always found himself to be well dressed. He believed the dresses are the mirror of what we feel inside. On the night of 14th Feb 1970, he looked like some Chinese restaurant menu with an overloaded NBC peacock.
One of Frazier’s friends mentioned,“ Hey, are you kidding me, man!”. He seems surprised while witnessing him in the Marriott Motor Hotel lobby. He even added.” These threads are too much to bear!!”.
It first appeared in the Feb. 14, 1970, issue of The Sporting News. Back at that time, the Knicks were in line for the very first NBA title in the history of the franchise.
Is Frazier’s Too Much Ball Control A Problem?
If we check into Frazier’s weakness, one is surely his control of the ball. Often, he tends to control the ball for too much time. Other fellow players and teammates are hardly left to do anything. Rather than bringing the ball up before making decisions, he reverse-dribbled and curbed out the team’s penetration.
As per Boston’s John Havlicek, Frazier’s philosophy is similar to the old Celtics. John himself had been one of the quality clutch players. It is no surprise that some NBA guards are way more gifted while running the quick break. He also believes that who cares about the playing method as far as the team is winning.
John even mentioned that Fraizer is not one of those whose totals are impressive after the Knicks win. But, he is surely one of those who come as a savior if you need a lot of baskets to win.
