Wallabies lock After receiving a red card against England, Darcy Swain receives a suspension
Wallabies lock After receiving a red card against England, Darcy Swain receives a suspension. After a Rugby World judicial committee upheld his red card for foul play, Darcy Swain was given a two-week suspension and will now miss the final two games of the England Test series.
After Swain was dismissed in the 34th minute for retaliatory headbutting of Jonny Hill opposite, the Australians were forced to play the majority of the first Test against England at Perth Optus Stadium with only one player. Australia led 30-14 after the second half after three tries and went on to win 30-28.
‘Having recognized mitigating elements, including the player’s admission of guilt, clean disciplinary record, behavior at the hearing, and expression of contrition, the committee granted the player full mitigation of 50% in three weeks,’ the committee said in a statement on Tuesday.
The fine was subsequently reduced by an additional week when the committee found that a three-week punishment would be completely inappropriate to the level and severity of the offense considering the aforementioned off-field mitigating considerations. Swain has the option of appealing. On Saturday in Brisbane and on July 16 in Sydney, the series’ last two games will be played.
