Virat Kohli’s manager remarks the depression remark is being used too loosely
Virat Kohli’s manager remarks the depression remark is being used too loosely: Immediately after former India skipper Virat Kohli opened up on his battle with himself, Kohli’s manager gave his remarks that Virat has been disappointed with his depression news being used loosely. Kohli’s manager has contradicted the statements. His manager said that they were blown out of proportion.
“The representation of a severe condition like depression is very well understood by Virat. He has spoken openly about the mental challenges of playing the sport at the highest level. And he has not shied away from admitting them. Having said that, he has mentioned that he has experienced mental challenges at only a certain stage in his career,” Virat Kohli’s agent Bunty Sajdeh said.
“Virat for one will never feel alone when he is around people who love and support him. That is where he has got his mental strength from. Every top athlete has gone through the mental challenges of dealing with pressures and expectations that come with the positions they are at. Depression is too big and significant a term to be used so loosely,” the CEO of Cornerstone, the company managing Kohli further said.
Throwing light upon his mental health and the pressures of being a top-level athlete, Virat Kohli commented that it was important to stay in touch with one’s inner self. The 33-year-old surrendered all forms of captaincy in the last 9 months. He said that he at times felt ‘alone’ despite being in a room full of people who care for him and love him.
The former captain’s manager said that a comment made by Kohli that attracted the attention of the media was mostly misinterpreted.
“I personally have experienced times when even in a room full of people who support and love me. I felt alone, and I am sure that this is a feeling that a lot of people can relate to. So, take out time for yourself and reconnect with your core self,” Kohli was quoted as saying in a national daily.
