Kohli said in a video posted on RCB’s Twitter handle, ‘Selecting Faf in the auction, our plan was very clear. We needed a captain who is highly respected.
Former RCB captain Virat Kohli said Faf du Plessis has strong leadership skills. Due to this franchise decided to make him the captain for the upcoming IPL.
Kohli said, “He has been a Test captain and he is a highly respected cricketer. We at RCB are excited to see him in leadership. He will play his role very well. He has a very good relationship with all of us. I am sure Maxi (Glenn Maxwell), Dinesh Karthik, and all other teammates will enjoy this tournament under his leadership”.
Kohli joined the RCB’s camp on Monday. The Indian batting legend had earlier decided to step down from the RCB captaincy as he wanted to manage his workload. Even he is not captaining the Indian team in any of the formats of the game. Kohli had decided to step down from India’s T20 captaincy just after the 2021 T20 World Cup. WC was the last tournament of him as a T20 captain. people felt shocking when Kohli decided to leave the Test captaincy for team India.

Du Plessis is the seventh captain for RCB, with Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Kohli, and Shane Watson in the place before him. Among them, Kohli has captained the team in most of the matches. Kohli has a record of 64 wins, 69 losses, 3 ties, and 4 of no results in 140 matches. Kohli has a win percentage of 48.16 for his franchise.

Speaking on the occasion, RCB Chairman Prathamesh Mishra said, “We are excited to appoint Faf du Plessis as the new captain of RCB. I congratulate Faf and welcome him to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Faf was one of our top priorities in the IPL auction.
Meanwhile, Mike Hesson, RCB’s Director of Cricket Operations said, ‘I would like to extend my best wishes to Faf du Plessis on being appointed as the captain of RCB. Faf is not only a world class player, but he has also shown tremendous potential. Has led well at the international level in all three formats of the game.
