The former RCB captain wrote to a few BCCI officials to explain the situation after his on-field altercation with Naveen-ul-Haq and Gautam Gambhir.
During the Lucknow Super Giants vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2023 match on May 1. Virat Kohli, as he so often is, was the main character.
However, this time, he was more famous for his aggressive celebrations, sledding, and heated arguments with LSG players Naveen-ul-Haq, Amit Mishra, and their mentor, Gautam Gambhir.
This does not imply that Kohli was to blame for this, but he was definitely the main character. A ton has been composed, spoken, and revealed since that revolting fracas occurred at the Ekana Arena in Lucknow yet the new subtleties and new improvements continue to manifest.
It has now come to light that the former RCB captain wrote to a few BCCI officials to explain the situation. Nearly five days after his on-field altercation with Naveen-ul-Haq and Gambhir.
A report from Dainik Jagran says that Kohli also told the BCCI officials how disappointed he was about not getting the full match fee.
According to reports, Kohli claimed that he did not say anything to Gambhir or Naveen-ul-Haq. During the fight that would have been punished by the BCCI.
Due to the heated argument they had, the match referees and on-field umpires deemed it a Level 2 offense and a violation of Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Which addresses “all types of conduct that bring the game into disrepute.”
Kohli and Gambhir each received a fine equal to one hundred percent of their respective match fees.
Kohli, in any case, doesn’t feel his conduct justified such a fine. Which could go up to about ₹1.25 crore for him.
Witnesses to the verbal altercations, including players and officials, claim that Kohli treated Naveen-ul-Haq and Kyle Mayers with hostility.
Amit Mishra, who was batting with Naveen towards the finish of LSG’s pursuit. Additionally whined to the umpires about Kohli’s way of behaving.
According to the report, Naveen-ul-Haq was irritated by RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj’s throws and bouncers against him.
Kohli in his message to BCCI authorities said he didn’t immediately Siraj to hit Naveen yet instead just taught him to bowl bouncers.
After the match, the forceful way in which Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed Kohli’s handshake and nearly drove him away didn’t go down well with the fans. After the game, Naveen’s aggressive behavior reportedly irked Kohli as well.
The Afghanistan and LSG pacer was fined half of his match charges. Regarding Kohli’s encounter with Gambhir, the latter’s brief interaction with Mayers was the catalyst for the incident.
It appears that the LSG opener confronted Kohli about his “abuse” of him and gave him a send-off. Kohli contended that Mayers was “gazing” at him. Gambhir intervened at this point and led Mayers away.
“Bloody f***… I want to give him a send-off,” the RCB veteran said as Gambhir and Kohli went in opposite directions. He was presumably as yet alluding to Mayers. In any case, Gambhir could have done without this. He pivoted and charged toward Kohli.
Then, Kohli told Gambhir, maintaining a relatively composed demeanor. That anything he said or did was not for the LSG mentor and that he should “stay away” from the situation.
In response, Gambhir said that his players are like “his family” and won’t let anyone “abuse” them.
Before things got any worse, the LSG players broke up with Gambhir and Kohli.
LSG played one match against CSK after that incident. But it was washed out by rain, and RCB will play Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
