Video shows major fight at Giants training camp that involves multiple players and even an assistant coach: Things heated up at Giants training camp.
There have already been many training camp brawls in the NFL this season, and the New York Giants added to that amount on Monday after a tumultuous morning at camp that nearly resulted in an all-out scuffle.
According to the New York Daily News, tensions between the offense and defense began to rise following a play in which Saquon Barkley dropped his shoulder while racing into CB Aaron Robinson.
The Giants’ defense was not pleased with Barkley’s conduct, and this is when the brawls began. There were two additional scuffles on the two plays that followed Barkley’s hit, one of which included an assistant coach (Bobby Johnson).
Giants practise becoming chaotic, according to Jordan Raanan. Begin with Saquon Barkley dropping his shoulder on CB Aaron Robinson. The next two plays feature scuffles. Bobby Johnson, the offensive line coach, gets involved, shoving with OLB Cam Brown. C Brown and Jon Feliciano exchanged consecutive haymakers (with helmets on).
But it wasn’t until Jon Feliciano and Cam Brown got into it that things became genuinely nasty.
Here’s what occurred once the two started fighting, according to the Athletic: “Brown dragged Feliciano away from the melee, and [offensive line coach Bobby Johnson] shoved Brown. Feliciano then hit Brown in the head.”
No matter how bad things go, an assistant coach will virtually never go after a player.
The video below shows the moment when things nearly devolved into a bench-clearing brawl. After Feliciano and Brown began throwing punches at one other towards the beginning of the video, both offensive and defensive players on the sideline rushed to the field.
According to Newsday, new Giants coach Brian Daboll gathered the players quickly after the altercation, which seemed to settle things down. This is the second major brawl during training camp in the last five days. Things also grew hot during a practice session on August 3rd, which concluded with Daniel Jones in the bottom of a pile.
On the one hand, as a new coach like Daboll, you want to see some fight in your players. You don’t want them battling each other, on the other hand.
The Giants will finally have a chance to vent their frustrations on someone else this week when they meet the Patriots in their preseason opener on Thursday.
