Venus Williams returns to singles play after losing against Rebecca in Washington
Venus Williams returns to singles play: On Monday, 2nd August 2022 Venus Williams returned to singles after being a year away. She played her comeback match against Rebecca Marino of Canada. However, she lost the match against Rebecca in sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Citi Olen is in full swing, In the 1st round of Women’s singles, Venus Williams had a clash against Rebecca in Washington. It was Venus’ first match since August last year.
Venus reacted after the match with the media in an on-court interview
Before playing Hardcourt tune-up in the US Open, Williams played Single in Chicago on August 23, 2021. She lost to Su-Wei-Hseih in that match. However, she played Mixed doubles at Wimbledon with Jamie Murray.
Williams said in the media interaction” I don’t think I have played well a lot of time, I was just trying to shake off some rust. That’s just what I was expecting, all I can do is play another tournament and play better than this.” She further added ” I think it was thrilling for the crowd to see us hitting. More than anything I guess it was an exciting game in the tournament. ”
On the other side of Women’s matches, the top-ranked Jessica Pegula and former top-ranked Simona Halep advanced in the tournament.
Jessica Pegula defeated American Hailey Baptiste in 6-2, 6-2 sets. While Simona Halep defeated Cristina Bucsa of Spain in sets 6-3, 7-5.
Simona Halep said ” I had a good time in Wimbledon. But I am glad I won this match and now I can play more in the tournament.”
On the Men’s side in the Citi Open, Andy Murray lost the opening match of the tournament. While the countrymen Kyle Edmund defeated Qualifier Yosuke in ATP Tour level singles.
