Usman Khawaja, the opener for Australia, defended his decision to wear a black armband during the first Test match against Australia in Perth, saying it was in solidarity with the victims of Palestine during Israel’s conflict. The left-handed opener disclosed that it was solely for personal reasons.

Khawaja got criticism from the ICC on Wednesday for wearing a black armband during the Perth Test against Pakistan last week without first obtaining approval from the highest cricket organization. He had already been banned by the ICC from wearing shoes bearing pro-Palestinian slogans.
Usman Khawaja stated “That consistency hasn’t been done yet”
The batsman, who was born in Pakistan, scored 41 runs in the first innings of the first Test match with David Warner, making major contributions with the bat. In the second inning, the southpaw scored an additional 90 runs, putting the visitors up to 450 runs.
