The first Women’s Premier League (WPL) cliffhanger occurred when the UP Warriorz came back from the dead to defeat the Gujarat Giants. Despite Gujarat’s dominance for the majority of the game, UP Warriorz were able to score a goal thanks to Grace Harris’s power-hitting demonstration.
When they were willing to battle Delhi Capitals at the WPL Auction, it was clear that UP Warriorz wanted Harris on their team. The powerhouse was purchased by UP for 75 lakh rupees, and the Australian has already demonstrated her worth. She has performed admirably in both the BBL and international T20Is, and if this innings is any indication, she may also make this WPL one to remember.
53 from 37 balls against the Perth Scorchers in 2020
Grace Harris always wanted to be like MS Dhoni, and in the first WBBL match in 2020, her strategic thinking and game sense came to the fore.
In their 20 overs, the Perth Scorchers had scored 132 runs.
When Harris came in, the Heat were down to 45 for 2 in the seventh over. She was willing to spend some time at the crease and approach the innings in the same manner as Dhoni did.
She wanted to change gears and put the bowlers under more pressure again. She led Heat to a comprehensive victory with a 53-run innings of 37 deliveries, a superb and calculated chase.
64 off 35 versus India, 2022
It’s safe to say that the best sporting team in the world is the Australian women’s team. They have a lot of players with a lot of experience and a lot of depth. As a result, the remaining batters were not put under any pressure when they were reduced to 4-72 in the tenth over.
Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris collaborated to score 129 runs in the final 10.2 overs at a rate of 12.64. In her innings, Harris smashed four sixes and six fours, sending the Indian bowlers on a never-ending leather hunt. Australia won 4-196 in the end. India never participated in the match, and the hosts won the series 4-1.
59 runs in 26 balls against the Gujarat Giants, WPL
As Grace Harris’ blinder of an innings led the UP Warriorz to an unlikely victory over the Gujarat Giants, the WPL took off. When UP were reduced to 86/4 while chasing a target of 170, Harris took the bat.
Effortlessness Harris exhibited her huge capacity and steely demeanor, and began the butchery when UP required 70 runs off the last five overs. She finished the game with a clean pickup six over deep square leg to maintain her unbeaten record of 59* off 26 shots. By one ball and three wickets, UP prevailed in the match.
For his blitzing innings, Harris was named man of the match. If these signs are any indication, this Australian powerhouse could very well be what defines this WPL.
