Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal Appointed Bowling Coaches of Pakistan: Former Pakistani Cricketers Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal have been appointed as the Bowling Coach for the Pakistan team. Umar Gul lead Fats bowling coach and Saeed Ajmal lead as a Spin bowler coach. Both players start their assignment against Australia between 14th December to 7th January 2024 and the T20I series against New Zealand from January 12 to 21, 2024.
Beforehand, Umar Gul served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan Men’s team for the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan, and the Subsequent series against New Zealand. He also did coaching in the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2022 for Afghanistan.
On accepting the new job offer, Gul said, “I am delighted to join the Pakistan team as the bowling coach and feel honored to have been given the opportunity to contribute to Pakistan cricket by Mr Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee ” “Having previous experience of working with the men’s team, I will bring my coaching expertise with the aim of taking Pakistan’s bowling capability to new heights.”
Umar Gul played 47 Tests, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is for Pakistan between 2003 and 2016, picking up 378 wickets for his country.
Pakistan’s spin bowling coach Saeed Ajmal has represented the team in 35 Tests, 113 ODIs, and 64 T20Is, and has taken 447 wickets across all three formats, including the accolade of being the No. 1 ranked ODI bowler. In terms of coaching experience, he served as the spin bowling coach of PSL franchise team Islamabad United.
“I am truly honored and grateful to have been provided the opportunity to serve as the spin bowling coach by Mr. Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee,” Ajmal said. “I am delighted to contribute to the development of spin bowling talent within the Pakistan national team. I believe my career and coaching experience will help enhance the team’s spin bowling armoury.”
