The Union of Football Associations hosts the UCL, a season-long football tournament that was first played in 1955. 32 of the best football clubs in Europe compete for the championship. The last game, played in late May or early June, determines the Champions League winner, and the championship normally starts in late June.
The champion of the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League is automatically qualified for the 2023–24 UCL group stage. Manchester City, who have won their first Champions League championship, are the current UCL defending champions.
