Joe Root once again failed to produce with the bat, this time on Day 2 of England’s second Test against India in Vizag on Saturday (February 3).
The right-handed hitter was removed for five runs off ten balls, caught by Shubman Gill in the slips off Jasprit Bumrah. The latter dismissed him for the record ninth time in Tests.
Root had already scored 29 and two in the first Test in Hyderabad. The hosts made sure the famed hitter did not achieve a huge score on the first three times.
He has scored the most runs by an English hitter against India in Tests, with 2562 in 48 innings, including nine hundreds and ten half.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s double century helped India score 396 against England in the first innings of the second Test.
Jaiswal scored 209 runs from 290 balls, including seven maximums and 19 boundaries. Shubman Gill and debutant Rajat Patidar scored in his 30s, while Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Ravichandran Ashwin contributed in their 20s.
James Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, and debutant Shoaib Bashir each took three wickets for England. Joe Root, who took five wickets in the first Test, was wicketless in his 14 overs.
In response, England were 150/4 after 32 overs, with Jonny Bairstow and captain Ben Stokes at the crease. Zak Crawley was the highest scorer with 76 off 78, hitting two sixes and 11 boundaries.
Kuldeep Yadav made the first breakthrough by dismissing Ben Duckett, while Axar Patel sent back Crawley. Bumrah then removed Root and Ollie Pope, who had scored 196 in the first Test.
