Trade rumors for Kyrie Irving
Trade rumors for Kyrie Irving. The NBA news cycle is constantly interesting. The drama in Brooklyn intensified on Saturday, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, who said the Nets and Lakers are ‘actively involved in talks about a deal including All-Star guards Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook.
The Nets organization has had a tough time recently because of a slew of issues with their star players, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
When Irving’s contract discussions with the team were causing issues, everything began. The final choice Irving made was to exercise his player option and stay in Brooklyn. The NBA was shocked when Durant decided to formally request a trade despite Irving’s vow to stay for another season.
The Nets now seem to be considering a trade that would send Irving to Los Angeles as they consider offers for the former MVP.
Despite the fact that Haynes stated that the Lakers and Nets’ trade discussions are still in the ‘preliminary’ stage, he did provide some details on how a hypothetical trade would pan out.
Despite Irving making $37 million next season, a one-for-one trade of Westbrook for Irving doesn’t make sense since the Nets would acquire too much salary. The Nets would have to add more players to stretch the money because Westbrook will make $47 million next season.
The Lakers are apparently interested in taking on the deal of seasoned shooter Joe Harris, who is due $38.6 million over the next two years, according to Haynes, who also added that draught compensation is ‘an ongoing conversation topic’ for the Nets.
Seth Curry, who is on an expiring contract and will only make $8.5 million next season, is preferred by the Lakers. The money would work in an Irving-for-Westbrook trade if the Lakers could agree to the Nets’ demands for sizable pick compensation and their willingness to assume Harris’ contract.
However, Haynes states that ‘the Nets are not anticipated to be hurried into a deal and will continue chatting with the Lakers on the complex logistics on an Irving-Westbrook swap.’ The Lakers’ efforts to acquire Irving have reportedly stalled, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
