According to an autopsy report obtained by USA Today Sports, Tori Bowie, a former sprinter who won both the Olympic and world championships, passed away at home from problems related to childbirth.
After the local sheriff’s deputies did “a well-being check of a woman… who had not been seen or heard from in several days,” the 32-year-old was discovered deceased at her Orlando, Florida, home in May. At the time, no cause of death was disclosed. According to Bowie’s online obituary, her daughter Ariana predeceased her.
Bowie was eight months pregnant at the time of her death, and the Orange County Medical Examiner Office’s report states that she was giving delivery. If her friends and relatives were aware of her pregnancy is unknown.
According to the report, eclampsia and respiratory distress were potential reasons of death. Eclampsia is a rare pre-eclampsia condition that can result in seizures and strokes.
