One of the most popular IPL franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) headed into the IPL 2023 auction with a settled squad after retaining their core players in the draft earlier this year. They released just five players, the least by any franchise, ahead of the auction on December 23 in Kochi. The Bangalore-based franchise, which boasts one of the most loyal fan bases in cricket, headed into the auction with a purse value of 8.75 crores.
While the other big names like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians made the headlines after spending big bucks on Ben Stokes and Cameron Green respectively, RCB remained relatively quiet during the earlier rounds of the auction. However, the Men in Red made their first signing of the auction after capturing the signature of the tall English pacer Reece Topley for a paltry 1.90 Crore.
The left-arm pacer made a brilliant return to the limited overs format for England in 2022 and promises to be a brilliant addition to the star-studded bowling squad which features the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood. England’s 24-year-old all-rounder Will Jacks was another notable signing by the Bangalore-based franchise in the IPL 2023 auction. The Englishman is a skilled batter who can also provide the goods with the ball.
5. Dinesh Karthik (₹ 5.50 Crore)
Dinesh Karthik is set to ply his trade for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after being picked up by the franchise for ₹5.50 crore at the recently concluded mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). This marks the end of Karthik’s four-year journey with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), whom he captained for two and a half seasons.
The seasoned campaigner thanked the KKR team management, owners and his former teammates through his latest social media post. He wrote on Instagram: Karthik is 11th on the list of leading run-scorers in the cash-rich league. The right-handed batter has 4,046 runs to his name in 192 innings.
It is worth mentioning that this will be the cricket star’s second stint with RCB. The last time Karthik played for the Bangalore-based franchise was in 2015, when the the 36-year-old managed 141 runs from 16 matches at an average and strike rate of 12.81 and 120.51, respectively
4. Harshal Patel/Wanindu Hasaranga (₹ 10.75 crore)
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) didn’t have much money in the bank at the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. With only ₹8.75 crore at their disposal, they didn’t make any high-profile signings. That was partly because RCB have a few players eating up a significant portion of their budget. While the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga have lived up to their price tags, others’ performances have left a lot to be desired
In fact, even those who have performed well might be on unreasonably lucrative contracts during the upcoming IPL season. Here are three RCB players who are on overpriced contracts for IPL 2023. Harshal Patel, the IPL 2021 Purple Cap winner with 32 scalps, seemed to have it all figured out in the league. The pacer had a potent slower ball and a gamut of other variations, and to top it all off, he could contribute with the bat as well.
Harshal made his way back to RCB in the IPL 2022 mega-auction for ₹10.75 crore, an amount that seems outlandish given how his performances have waned since then. He scalped just 19 wickets in 15 matches in IPL 2022 and has been disappointing for India in the T20I format as well.
3. Mohammad Siraj/Faf Du Plessis (₹ 7 Crore)
Mohammed Siraj is a famous Indian cricketer. Siraj plays for Hyderabad at domestic level. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Siraj features for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Mohammed Siraj is a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He is known for his sharp length and nippy deliveries. Having an aggressive and never-say-die attitude, Siraj is loved by his fans for it.
Mohammed Siraj was retained by the franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping ₹7 crore. Siraj has been playing in the IPL for six years and has accumulated a total of ₹20 crore. Mohammed Suraj’s monthly income is around 50 lakh, and this is without the inclusion of his IPL salary and various endorsement deals. His salary is predicted to only increase with his fabulous performances in the IPL and international cricket
2. Glenn Maxwell (₹ 11 Crore)
Glenn Maxwell is Australia’s all-rounder. Maxwell is famous for right-handed off-break bowling and explosive batting. Maxwell holds the record for winning the match lost to Australia several times. However, Maxwell is in and out of the team. Maxwell will be part of Kings XI Punjab in the IPL-20. The Kings XI Punjab team will have a lot of expectations with Maxwell’s batting.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) entered the recent IPL 2022 Auction with a couple of objectives in mind. After Virat Kohli’s exit from the leadership bunch, the franchise faced added pressure to snap up a new skipper at the two-day event. The RCB think-tank shelled out ₹7 crore for South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, who seems to be an ideal candidate for the captaincy role.
1. Virat kohli (₹ 15 Crore)
Royal Challengers Bangalore have decided to retain Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega-auction in January. Kohli, the highest run-scorer in the IPL, won’t be leading the team anymore therefore, RCB will have to find a skipper in the auction in January.
Kohli has been retained for Rs 15 crore, taking a pay cut of Rs 2 crore, while Maxwell and Siraj have been retained for Rs 11 crore and Rs 7 crore, respectively.
